CBD For Nausea

CBD is proven effective for symptoms for various ailments. A common symptom is nausea. Nausea occurs for many different reasons. It is a symptom for various disorders including motion sickness, indigestion, overconsumption of alcohol, side effects of taking pharmaceutical medications, and cancer treatments. To understand how CBD can stop or prevent nausea, let’s look at the symptom first.

A Closer Look At Nausea

Nausea is a feeling of vomiting with different sensations that go with it. Some associate nausea with their surroundings spinning around, bouts of hot flashes, and for others an uneasy feeling on the stomach. In reality, nausea is an umbrella term for different sensations and even pain you feel when you are about to vomit. It can be caused by motion sickness, copious consumption of food and alcohol, flu and associated high body temperature, and food poisoning. It is our body’s way of quickly expelling toxins and lowering temperature. And after relieving yourself of the toxins, you should feel better.

But there are instances that nausea and vomiting don’t quickly stop but intermittently occur. And if it lasts longer than 24 hours, medical attention should be sought out. Nausea is a symptom of a disease or ailment. Here are diseases that can cause nausea:

  • Migraines
  • Ear infections
  • Anxiety/panic attacks
  • Viral infections
  • Side effects of medications
  • Motion sickness
  • Morning sickness
  • GI disorders
  • Carbon monoxide poisoning

When you feel nauseous, there are four major elements in the body that causes the symptom and culminate into vomiting. The four major elements are the GI tract, chemoreceptor trigger zone or CTZ, vestibular apparatus, and cerebral cortex. When a toxin, chemical, or biological in nature enters the body, the four elements come into defense play, and converge where vomit is expelled; the medulla.

CBD Goes Into Action

In a nutshell, CBD helps nausea by calming the body and seeking homeostasis or stability. Neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin are released during nausea and trigger vomiting. CBD acts by balancing out the secretion of the neurotransmitters, stimulating them to create a sedative effect. Slowing down the secretion of neurotransmitters actually help in preventing the nausea and vomiting. And in doing so, the symptom is control.

In certain cases, CBD oil is combined with THC to enhance the potency for chronic bouts of nausea and vomiting as experienced by cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and other medical processes such as radiation.

For those who experience nausea due to frequent indigestion or digestive disorders, CBD is combined with other essential oils such as peppermint oil. CBD oil prevents inflammation of the digestive track and promotes proper movement of digesting food. Head on over to our shop to view our selection of premium CBD.
